　　現在我們看到高高的磚砌墻門的正上方，有磚雕貼金的門額“拙政園”三個字。拙政園始建于明代正德四年（1509年）。明代御史王獻臣因官場失意而還鄉，以大弘寺址拓建為園，借西晉潘岳《閑居賦》“拙者之為政”句意，自我解嘲，取名為“拙政園”。王獻臣死后，他的兒子以拙政園為賭注，一夜之間輸掉了。自此拙政園400余年來，屢易其主，歷經滄桑，幾度興衰。

　　拙政園與蘇州其他古典園林一樣，是典型的宅園合一，有宅有園，前宅有園的格局。拙政園的花園分東園、中園、西園三部分，整個造園以山水并重，以水池為中心，水面占全園的五分之三，亭榭樓閣皆臨水而立，倒映水中，相互映襯。

　　各位游客：現在從園門進去便是東花園。入園后，首先映入眼簾的是東花園的主廳“蘭雪堂”。“蘭雪”二字出自李白“春風灑蘭雪”之句，有清香高潔、超凡脫俗之意。廳堂面寬三間，中間屏門上有一幅漆雕畫，是拙政園的全景圖。從圖上看，拙政園氛圍三個部分：東部，曾取名為“歸園田居”，以田園風光為主；中部，稱為“復園”，以池島假山取勝，也是拙政園的精華所在；西部，稱為“補園”，以清代建筑為主。整個院子沒有明顯的中軸線，也不對稱，但錯落有致，疏密得體，近乎自然，是蘇州園林中布局最為精巧的一座。

　　走出蘭雪堂，迎面有一組太湖石假山。這塊名為“綴云峰”的假山高聳在綠樹竹蔭中，與西側涼快形狀怪異的石峰并立，叫做“聯壁”。水池邊山峰外形似船，俗名“翻轉劃龍船”。走到這里，似乎有似曾相識的感覺，大家可能都會聯想到《紅樓夢》中大觀園進門處的假山，同這座假山極為相似。

　　蘭雪堂的東北面，臨水而筑的這座卷棚歇山頂的建筑，就是“芙蓉榭”。此榭為東花園夏日賞荷的絕佳之處。面對荷花池，背倚高墻，一邊開闊，一邊封閉，給人一種寧靜的氣氛。加拿大溫哥華“逸園”中的水榭，就是參照此榭設計的。

　　芙蓉榭以北是一片紫薇草坪，中間聳立的那座重檐攢尖八角亭，名為“天泉閣”。閣中有“天泉井”，相傳此井為元代大弘寺東齋的遺跡。夏日可在此閣欣賞紫薇花。這座建筑物，從外面看似乎是兩層，在里面看卻只有一層。欣賞蘇州園林里的建筑物，高的樓閣要仰視。如果您站在“天泉閣”的戧角下，凝視飄動的浮云，您似乎感到樓閣正在藍天中翱翔。這就是蘇州園林建筑物上大都建有戧角的奧秘。這些戧角，除了有利于采光和通風外，主要是增加了動感和美感，成了蘇州建筑的地方特色之一。

　　那座外觀輕快明朗，體量較大的四面廳，稱“秫香館”。顧名思義，就是欣賞稻麥飄香的地方。“樓可四觀，每當夏秋之交，家田種秫，皆在觀望中。”現在所見到的“秫香館”，其主體建筑是60年代重修拙政園時從東山搬遷過來的，體量偏大，與原景略有不同。

　　秫香館西南，隔溪有一土山，上有長方亭，名“放眼亭”，取唐代白居易“放眼看青山”詩意，亦曾叫“補拙亭”。在亭中居高臨下放眼四望，東園景色盡收眼底。

　　東中花園以這條復廊分隔，復廊的墻壁上開有25個漏窗，不同的團被水中波紋反射疊印，隨著步移花窗的變換，園內景色也不斷地變化。穿過復廊的黑漆大門，便到了中部花園。看這座半亭倚墻而作，亭中有一圓拱門，三面凌空，長廊似虹，故名“倚虹亭”。站在倚虹亭旁，向西眺望，極遠處又有一亭，亭內也有一圓拱門，這就是西花園的“別有洞天”園門。而在亭臺樓閣旁，小橋流水之上，古樹花木之間，屹立著一座寶塔，那就是園外遠處的北寺塔，給人以一種“庭院深深深幾許”的感覺。這一借景的手法，運用得很成功，園主確實費盡了心機。因為中部花園東西長，南北窄，有一種壓抑感，浴室園主利用低洼的地勢鑿池疊山。用假山遮住兩邊的圍墻，而池面上留出了大量的空間，使人感到開闊而深遠。中部花園里的建筑物，大小不同，形狀各異，高低錯落，疏密有致。

　　中園是拙政園的主體部分和精華所在。總體布局以水池為中心，分布著高低錯落的建筑物，具有江南水鄉特色。現在各位請看池島假山，池岸曲折，水繞山轉。假山上的“悟竹幽居”，山頂的“待霜亭”和“雪香云蔚亭”點綴其上。從東面看，一山高過一山；從南面看，一山連接一山；從西面看，一山壓倒眾山，具有中國山水畫的傳統構圖特色，也體現了“橫看成嶺側成峰，遠近高低各不同”的意境。

　　下面我們先來觀賞“悟竹幽居”。此亭俗稱“月到風來亭”。與眾不同的它是一個方亭，4個大大的圓洞門使人馬上會聯想到八月十五的月亮。人站在其中向外看，猶如四個巨大的鏡框鑲嵌著蘇州園林一年四季的風光：北面青竹石筍，西面嫩荷吐尖，南面梧桐秋雨，東面梅花怒放。亭內有文征明的書額和對聯：“爽借清風明借月，動觀流水靜觀山。”慢慢品味，似乎有皓月當空、清風徐徐和遠望群山、近看流水的那種賞心悅目的感受。

　　跨過九曲石板橋，沿著彎彎曲曲的山間小路緩步登山，這座輕巧若飛的`亭子就是“待霜亭”。“待霜”取義于唐代詩人曾任蘇州刺史的韋應物的詩：“書后欲提三百顆，洞庭須待滿林霜。”字里行間透出了一股霜濃橘紅的山野氣息和泥土芳香。

　　穿過叢林，越過小溪，步上石階，就到了“雪香云蔚亭”。它位于島的中央制高點。居高臨下，與遠香堂遙遙相對，站在亭內，園中各處亭臺樓閣一覽無余。停住上有文征明手書的對聯，上方還有明代畫家倪云露的“山花野鳥之間”題額。

　　各位游客：現在我們來到中部花園的中心池邊，這里四面環水，三面植柳，圍繞水面，有荷風四面亭、香洲、見山樓、倚玉軒、小飛虹、小滄浪和遠香堂等景點。

　　湖中島上的“荷風四面亭”上有一幅很有趣的楹聯，不僅描繪了此處的景色特點，還巧妙地點出了四季景：“四壁荷花三面柳，半潭秋水一房山。”楹聯上聯仿濟南大明湖“小滄浪”清代書法家鐵保所書的楹聯：“四面荷花三面柳，一城山色半城湖”。下聯則仿照唐代詩人李洞的“看待詩人無別物，半潭秋水一房山”。

　　與“荷風四面亭”隔山相望的是“香洲”。“香洲”的“洲”同“舟”同音，實際上是一座船型建筑物，可稱為石坊或旱船，似乎是一只官船在荷花叢里徐徐而行。而這艘石坊由亭、臺、樓、閣、榭五種典型建筑組合而成：船頭為荷花臺，茶室為四方亭，船艙為面水榭，船樓為澄觀樓，船尾為野航閣。蘇州是典型的江南水鄉，古代大都以舟代步，家家臨河，處處通船，所以在園林中也建有石坊。同時石坊也可以經常提醒人們“水可載舟，亦可覆舟”的道理，借此表白園主“處江湖之遠，則憂其君”的心跡。

　　經過九曲石橋，沿著游廊走，就見到“見山樓”，古代叫做“藕香榭”。見山樓語出陶淵明“采菊東籬下，悠然見南山”名句。它三面環水，似蒼龍嬉水，樓是龍頭，水廊是龍身，云墻是龍尾，門洞是龍嘴，曲橋是龍須。相傳此樓曾被用作太平天國忠王李秀成的辦公之處。登樓遠眺，可見蘇州西南的靈巖山。這里視野開闊，為北部的主景區，與南部次景區小滄浪、小飛虹和得真亭的空間窄小的布局形成對照。

　　從“見山樓”沿著游廊往南走，可以來到“小滄浪”。“小滄浪”的出典是《楚辭。漁夫》，原話是“滄浪之水清兮，可以濯我纓；滄浪之水濁兮，可以濯我足”。用現代的語言來解釋，就是倘若朝廷清明，我就洗洗帽纓，準備出仕輔助朝綱；倘若朝廷昏庸，我就洗洗雙腳，決心引退逍遙自在。“小滄浪”是一座三開間的水閣，南窗北檻，兩面臨水，跨水而居，構成一個閑靜的水院。站在“小滄浪”前往北看，廊橋“小飛虹”倒映在水里，水波蕩漾，猶如彩虹。這里是觀賞水景的最佳去處。只見藕香榭前各路水源匯聚一池，似乎“浩浩蕩蕩，橫無際涯”，到了香洲前，突然分流四去，其中一條支流彎彎曲曲，撲面而來，經過“小飛虹”，過“小滄浪”，有種余味未盡的感覺。

　　從小滄浪往東走，就來到了“遠香堂”。遠香堂位于中部花園的中心位置，回抱于山池之間，后面寬闊的平臺連接荷花池。夏日荷花盛開時，荷風撲面，清香遠送，所以稱為“遠香堂”。遠香堂建筑形體高大，而且廳內沒有一根阻礙行動和視線的庭柱，四面都鑲有玻璃，可以坐在廳里品茶、聊天、看景。廳的南邊是一座峻峭的黃石假山，北邊是池島假山，東邊山坡上有“繡綺亭”，西邊池塘邊有“倚玉軒”，給人以近山遠水，山高水低的感覺。“遠香堂”匾額原為乾隆年間著名學者沈德潛手筆，現為近代書法家張辛稼補書。兩邊有一副對聯，共80字，是蘇州諸多園林中最長的對聯，記載了當年八旗奉直會館達官貴人聚會時的盛況。蘇州古典園林建筑物，十分重視意境的設計，用大量的匾額楹聯書法作點綴，既記述了名園的歷史，又點明了景點的精華，還書法了園主的情懷。
